PRE-LOONION SEPTEMBER TRIP 1999

Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks

September 14th - 28th

INTRODUCTION

In July of 1998 I found the Total Yellowstone Chat Page after a marvelous, eye-opening trip to Yellowstone earlier that month. I had spent 8 days exploring and hiking in Yellowstone, Grand Teton and the Winds, and took my first llama trip to the Jedediah Wilderness with Jackson Hole Llamas. Once I found the Chat Page I learned that September was a popular time to see the Park so I planned my next trip.

I originally posted about things I had seen on this fall trip and questions I had and the comments I received encouraged me to write up the trip more extensively. I posted them on the Chat Page between October 3rd and 26th (it was great fun to write but took a long time). Shortly after this, plans for the first Loonion began to be formed and once I had attended that event, in May of 2000, I started my Trip Report website. While clearing out some old floppy disk files, I found this report preserved, so I am now adding it to the rest.

This was created before I had learned the proper names of many areas I am now very familiar with and before I had met a single Loon! Many of my comments show my immense naivete (which I suppose I still retain, having discovered the wonders of the Park only recently). I hope you find it as amusing as I do.
