2023 PUP WATCHING VISIT - May 20 - June 6

INTRODUCTION AND WOLF UPDATE

I’ve spent the last three weeks in Bozeman, dealing with doctor’s and PT appointments. Finally, the pain in my legs has begun to lessen.

It’s still a bit mysterious but the issue seems to be in my lower back. After several PT appointments (and a full body massage) I am settling in with a new routine of daily exercise.

I’ve also been watching the Spring unfold, which is always a delight. At first, I was surprised (like everyone else) when the intense fires in Canada blew nasty smoke into Bozeman for several days. It’s unusual to have smoke in the spring, and this was really bad. We had air quality alerts and I could not open the windows at all, even though the temps were perfect.

It’s still bad but slightly lessened. Last night Laurie & Dan returned to Bozeman and are headed to Silver Gate. I will join them there, after PT.

SHORT WOLF UPDATE

Since my last visit, the Slough Creek Campground road has opened (a bit early). 907F is no longer using the natal den. She and 1276F are now sharing the sage den. Just yesterday, watchers at Slough got glimpses of two pups; one gray and one black, so our timing is perfect.

No word yet on pups in any other packs. To my knowledge, none of them are denning in areas that can be seen from any vantage point along the road.
