MATING SEASON 2024 - INTRODUCTION

On February 9, I received some long-dreaded news – that my dear friend and fellow wolf-watcher Chloe lost her long and valiant battle with cancer.

She died peacefully in her sleep in the sweet Missoula bungalow she shared with her devoted wife, Becky. I had been planning a visit for the following day. Becky said “come anyway” so I did.

In doing so I was able to help a little, and to meet several of their wonderful Missoula friends, who have created a stalwart support network for them the last three years.

It was a bittersweet visit, but a worthwhile one. Becky is planning a memorial for Chloe in June and will want to spread her ashes in the various places Chloe loved, including Yellowstone.

I will take comfort in the many “appearances” Chloe made in these reports over the years. Rest in peace, my dear warrior. You lived a long life and a good one!
