JUNCTION BUTTE PACK:
When 907 and her uncollared black alpha male were both killed in late December 2024, several Rescue Creek pack males formed an alliance with three of the current females.
This new regime has been a coherent and successful pack since January 2025.
There are 11 members: 8 blacks and 3 gray; 8 are male; 3 are female. 6 are born Rescue; 5 born Junction
1385F (born Junction – black going gray; alpha)
1478F (born Junction – gray; GPS)
1479F (born Junction – black/brown, thin)
1545M (born Junction* – black, GPS; 2024 pup)
uncollared male (born Junction* – black/brown 2024 pup)
*I am assuming these two black pups currently in the pack were born Junctions and that they were "kept" in the pack when the females accepted the Rescue males (as is fairly normal). But it is remotely possible that one or both are Rescue pups that came with the other males.
1392M (born Rescue – black, gray chin, alpha)
1484M (born Rescue – gray, large)
1489M (born Rescue – black, bling collar)
uncollared (born Rescue – black, white chest mark)
uncollared (born Rescue – black- possible yearling)
uncollared (born Rescue – gray, yearling)
In contrast to the 907 era, the Junction pack now has more males than females.
Several of the former Junction adults did not remain with the pack when the Rescue males arrived. It is unknown (to me) what happened to 1386F. She and 907 got along fine, but she may have gone her own way when 1385F became alpha.
I have been unable to find any additional information on the uncollared Junction males (brown gray and big black). I hope they are pursuing available females in other areas.
The gray pup from 2024 was killed in the hunt, and I have not been able to find out what happened to the two other black pups from 2024. It’s possible one was killed in December during the Rescue/Junction incident.
What I learned in January and February is that initially four Rescue males joined three Junction females and their remaining pups after the former alphas were killed.
During breeding season, 2 additional Rescue males, first 1489M and then the uncollared gray yearling, left their natal pack to join the Junctions.
Currently, by happenstance, this pack has 7 working collars which I suspect is a record!
RESCUE CREEK PACK:
The normal count for this pack is now 12, with 11 blacks and 1 gray.
Alphas are 1393M (black) and 1490F (black). 1273M (black going gray, AKA Tripod) has remained a Rescue. He may be too closely related to the Junction females (and is NOT related to 1490F).
But I still don’t see these wolves often enough to know them well.
MOLLIE'S PACK
This legendary pack’s current count remains the same as in January. 9 with 6 grays and 3 blacks. Curiously, all the males are gray (and former Junctions) and all the females are black (all born Mollie’s)
1090F remains the alpha; she is black going gray.
1339M remains alpha (big gray, former Junction)
Two other grays are collared: 1483M and 1485M. Three remaining grays are uncollared.
1411F is not alpha but acts like it. She dominates the uncollared black female, causing her to frequently bed somewhat apart from the group.
Other wolves:
On a sad note, our dear 1048M was found to have died sometime in February. RIP, 1048!
